HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTES (HHW)
You Must Take HHW to Jackson, Wyoming - Teton County Wyoming’s HHW Facility is by Appointment - 307-733-7678
RAD Curbside & Teton County do NOT currently accept “household hazardous waste” (HHW). These materials are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (ID DEQ).
*WARNING - There are significant fees and liabilities if you are found disposing of “HHW” mixed in with any other disposed of materials. If it causes any type of damage (equipment or environmental), harm you will be held responsible for any impact, effect, administrative management, and remediation.
Household hazardous waste is defined as any substance that will no longer be used for its intended purpose and exhibits any of the following characteristics: it’s flammable, reactive with other chemicals to emit toxic gases, or becomes explosive; it’s corrosive or toxic to humans and animals. This includes, but is not limited to; antifreeze, acid-based products, ammonia-based cleaners and photo-chemicals, flammable liquids such as paint, brake fluid, hydrogen peroxide, nitrites and nitrates, flammable solids such as adhesives, glues, waxes and silicone sealants, aerosols, poisons, pesticides, and asbestos-containing materials.
Paint & Stain Disposal Solution
the key is to dry the paint or stain. Place a tarp on the ground, put double the amount of wood chips on the tarp to absorb the paint/stain, and allow it to COMPLETELY dry, once dry you can bag up the woodchips and dispose of them with household trash.
Solution for Disposing of your HHW Materials
Teton County Idaho will reimburse up to $150/year of cost for materials taken to the Teton County Wyoming Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Facility with proper receipt submitted to the Weigh master or at the courthouse. Teton County will only reimburse County Residents for this cost.
To make an appointment at TC WY HHW please call: 307-733-7678.

Unsorted Waste
$350/ton – material goes to Green Transfer Building then will go to the landfill
Unsorted Waste contains materials that could have been sorted or are mixed loads containing household or non-household mixed with sorted materials that the hauler chose not to sort.
**Contaminating Sorted piles will result in the load being charged as Unsorted.
Why Does Teton County change UNSORTED WASTE @ $350 PER TON?
UNSORTED WASTE: NON-HOUSEHOLD All other waste, including waste produced by contractors performing new construction, remodeling, or landscaping work; waste produced by households or businesses conducting one-time cleanup or construction activities of any structure. Unsorted materials that have no reuse/recycle value and are not considered to be inert materials. These construction materials can potentially contain asbestos which is very hard to identify especially when loads are mixed with all types of debris. Unsorted waste is also materials that could have been sorted by the customer to its designated piles, but customer chooses not to. Construction Materials that are not inert can contaminate groundwater, soil, or air. The remediation of groundwater, soil, and air is an expensive endeavor and can become a financial burden on taxpayers for millions of dollars. Unsorted waste of this type is more troublesome to process, damages equipment, and makes hauling less efficient. Therefore, unsorted materials carry a significantly higher cost when disposed of in landfills to cover the cost of managing this waste properly and to cover any potential future cost of unforeseen contamination issues and possible required remediation.
Unsorted Construction & Demolition Waste
$210/ton – material if passed by inspection, goes to C&D Pit and buried as it is an inert material and regarded as a liability
Unsorted C&D Waste can be a number of different materials. Wood that has other material attached, including metal or wire, sheetrock, or others goes to the C&D pit as unsorted C&D. Other items such as campers, fiberglass or plastic showers and tubs, pressure tanks, pipe, and conduit, also go into the C&D pit as unsorted C&D waste. No sheetrock or mudboxes, wood or metal allowed in the C&D pit.
